First Family Art Night!

Tonight marked the beginning of something beautiful.

A couple months ago, Tony registered online for his family to come to the studio and have an exclusive evening of art.

As we continued to plan, we couldn't get too deep into what we wanted to paint because he was set to surprise his wife for her Birthday (which happened to be today)!

So, as the family of four came in today, we decided together what Kari really wanted to get out of her special night.

Trees were her thing, so we choose 12x12 canvases to create a tree in each season. Elise (6), chose Spring. Carter (7), was the Summer man. Mom got her favorite season, Fall, and Dad - Winter.

We began with painting the background with acrylic paint of each seasonal color with a palette knife.

After, I taught how to draw a tree step-by-step (so the tree looked like the same tree in each piece) as they drew lightly on the canvas with oil pastel.

The next step took the brunt of the evening but really helped add texture. Each artist added torn book paper to fill in the tree and its branches.

Fall, Spring, and Summer trees cut and added leaves with patterned paper. We added some buttons for flare, and tissue paper for grass and flower buds.

Winter opted for torn white paper as snow on the branches and white tissue for drifts of snow on the ground.

The finished products will hang proudly in their home - and I'm so happy I had the pleasure of helping. Thank you for a beautiful night! Cheers to art, love, and family.
